After people started shortening "Arigato gozaimasu" to "Azaasu," it was only natural that they'd one day end up at "aza."

But then someone added "maru," the sentence-ending punctuation mark. Then they went and topped things off with "suisan," from the name of a Japanese seafood restaurant franchise that somewhat rhymes with "azamaru."

And all that became popular among young people.
